The ZEB Blaster OP (Open Pit) is the latest non-electric shock tube initiation system developed by ZEB for worldwide use in quarrying, civil construction and demolition, and surface mining operations. The equipment is BAM-approved (Germany) under approval number BAM-ZM-711.
Housing and connectors
The robust signal-orange plastic housing is additionally equipped with reflective panels for rapid identification in the field, even under poor visibility conditions. Waterproof, polarity-protected, self-locking automatic connectors (no screw connections required) are used for the ignition electrode cable and the intelligent battery charger. An impact guard protects the antenna connection against damage under harsh operating conditions.
ID chip and operating modes
A unique digital safety key secures the device against unauthorised use and automatically selects the operating mode.
The blasting machine can be operated in three modes:
Local: The device operates as a standalone unit directly on site.
Slave: The device operates as part of a set. It acts as the receiving unit and executes commands from the Master device.
Master: The device operates as part of a set. It transmits commands to all Slave devices and coordinates their operation.
A wireless remote ignition system can be set up with as few as two devices. To do this, simply insert the digital key from the device at the blast site into a second Blaster OP. The device recognises the key as external and automatically configures itself as the remote control unit.
Advantages of wireless remote operation
Compared to conventional deployment of a long starter shock tube, the wireless fully non-electric ignition system saves approximately 300 m of shock tube otherwise required to maintain the safety distance. It also eliminates the need to remove extension cables when using an electric starter detonator, saving time and effort. The unique serial number of each digital key provides a high level of operational security.
Flex electrode cable
The flex electrode cable protects the electrode holder against breakage under heavy load. It can be secured in the lid of the device for transport, which also protects the ignition electrode against dirt and environmental exposure.
Optional unidirectional antenna
In addition to the standard antenna supplied, a waterproof magnetic-mount antenna is also available. If the operator needs to position inside a bunker, or the blasting machine is placed behind or beneath a rock for protection against flyrock, this antenna can be freely positioned via its 3 m cable.
Radio module
At the customer's request, the device can be fitted with a radio module for SRD Region 1 (Europe, Africa) - CE certified - or Region 2 (North and South America) - FCC certified - with a range of approx. 2 km.
